Overview
DropLink is a peer-to-peer (P2P) file transfer service built on WebRTC technology. We are deeply committed to your privacy. This policy explains how our service works and how your data is handled.
The short version: Your files are NEVER uploaded to our servers. They travel directly from your browser to the recipient's browser. We cannot see, access, or store your files.
What We Do NOT Collect
We want to be crystal clear about what DropLink does not collect:
- Your files, file contents, or file metadata
- Your name, email address, or personal identity
- Your IP address (beyond standard server logs)
- Account information (no sign-up required)
- Transfer history or recipient information
- Device fingerprints or unique identifiers
What We Collect
To keep DropLink running and improving, we collect minimal technical data:
- Anonymized usage statistics — page visits, feature usage (no personal data)
- Error logs — to identify and fix bugs, stripped of identifying info
- Browser type & OS — for compatibility improvements only
- General geographic region — country-level only, via analytics
All collected data is aggregated and anonymized. It cannot be used to identify you personally.
How P2P Transfer Works
DropLink uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) technology to create a direct, encrypted channel between two browsers. Here's the process:
- The sender selects files and generates an "offer code" (a WebRTC SDP signal)
- This code is shared with the receiver manually (copy/paste)
- The receiver generates an "answer code" sent back to the sender
- A direct encrypted connection is established between the two browsers
- Files are transferred directly — our servers are never involved in the file data
The only server involvement is the initial STUN server call to help establish the peer connection. STUN servers only help browsers find each other's network address — they never see your file data.

Your Rights
Since we don't store personal data, there is very little to request. However, you have the right to:
- Opt out of analytics cookies at any time
- Opt out of advertising cookies at any time
- Request any server logs referencing your IP be deleted
- Contact us with any privacy concerns
If you are located in the EU, you are also protected under GDPR. Residents of California have rights under CCPA.
